The Faith Mission of Elkhart is the only emergency facility in Elkhart County where shelter, meals, clothing and long-term recovery programs are provided in one place. The doors are open 365 days a year to Michiana’s neediest men, women and children. Once each person’s immediate basic needs are met, they go to work restoring lives through long-term residential and community network programs.
636 people were served in 2008 and the numbers will be higher in 2009. On the average over 600 meals are served a day. No one is turned away. Anyone can get 2 free hot meals a day.
While men have traditionally been the primary target, in the past few years, they have expanded to help women and children.
Our dream with the Turkey Stampede is to build a fun community event to raise awareness of the work of the Mission and also to raise funds to support the work that is done there.
What better time of year, than on Thanksgiving- when we take time to reflect on all we have and be grateful.
Have fun. Help others. Improve the outlook.
