Please note:

A few communications have gone out saying that the run starts at the Mission and goes around downtown Elkhart. These plans have been updated. Following is the correct information.

We begin and end at lovely McNaughton Park, located right behind Elkhart General Hospital on the river. [First, there is already a lot going on at the Mission on Thanksgiving morning. McNaughton Park offers us our own private Pavilion building ( warm building with regular flush bathrooms) and park-like setting with plenty of parking.

If you have never been there, you should check it out! The park offers free summer concerts, tennis courts, a new splash water park for kids and lots of picnic areas. In winter, they have a hill kids use for sledding.

Other things to consider:

*If you are walking, please wear sensible walking shoes. Sock selection is also important, you want to give your toes enough room to breathe.

* If you are not sure you can walk a mile, just turn back when you feel like it. This is all about getting out for some air.

5K Course Description

You start out at McNaughton Pavilion which affords a panoramic view of the river. Usually, there are swans, ducks and geese playing in the water. You run through the park, and then up an incline [kids use it for sledding...so it IS a grade.] 5Kers continue down West Street, across Lexington and right on Fulton.

Fulton is a wide residential street with nice homes and large trees. Continue on Fulton to Michigan, make a right and then right to return back on Strong Avenue where the stately homes with manicured yards continue. Left on West, back down the hill, through the park and back to the shelter.

There will be one water station about mile 1.5 on the run. Water will be the only beverage on the course. We do not have a water station on the 1 mile course.

Warm beverages and treats await at the end in McNaughton Pavilion.

1 mile Course Description

You start out at McNaughton Pavilion which affords a panoramic view of the river. Usually, there are swans, ducks and geese playing in the water. You run through the park, and then up an incline [kids use it for sledding...so it IS a grade.] After you exit the park, right on Swanee, around the block and back on Lawn Avenue, back in the park.

Walkers, we just ask on the way back that you go 2-3 abreast on the way back and stay to the right.
